Health Heroes! ♀️
Have you ever heard the old Taoist saying “drink your food, and eat your water”?
Drink your food.. In other words: Chew. Chew. Chew. Chew. Chew. Chew until there’s nothing left to chew.
I’ve heard something like this before, that the more work you can do in your mouth is less work your body will have to do to break down the food.
However, there’s another important element to remember. While chewing it is important to allow the food to circulate around your mouth, touching all the receptors on the tongue, because ☝ those receptors send a signal to our brain telling us we are satiated and it’s time to stop eating.
Eat your water.. It was hard for me to wrap my head around eating my water.
Until I learned this☝ turns out chugging your water isn’t very beneficial for you. One of the things that makes water so valuable to us are the digestive enzymes in our saliva that are carried from our mouth though our esophagus and into our stomach to help digest and break down all the food in the gut
My take away: Slow down…. Take small gulps and allow yourself the full experience of eating your food.
This is the difference between eating to eat and true nourishment.
