Health Heroes! ♀️
Now is the time to give back to the earth that gives so much!
So much of the country has been in shambles this past week after the Winter Ice Storm we just had. So many people lost power & water (some still without) and are realizing just how unprepared they were for something like this. An eye opening experience to say the least.
I had an epiphany the other morning as I was climbing through the wreckage that was once the forest I ran through every morning.
At first walking through the forest, I felt sad, I even started to tear up, I felt grief well up in my chest. Devastation surrounded me. I knew it was going to be bad, but it was like 20 times worse than I could have ever imagined.
I thought to myself that it would be months before I could run the trail again.
The trail was hardly visible, unimaginable giant trees had been uprooted, taking parts of the trail with it. It was an unbelievable sight.
My initial thought was “I’m going to have to find another trail to run until this one is back up and running” then I felt into how that statement felt, It felt selfish. It felt like I was going to walk away from something that was so dear to me and wait for someone else to clean it up so I can have the pleasure of enjoying it again.
And in that moment, something shifted.
I felt into how important it is to give back.
And just how much JOY there is in giving back!
It is one of the most rewarding feelings on the planet. It is LOVE.
If it were my backyard, I would have no choice but to pick up the pieces and restore the space.
So why should the forest that I enjoy everyday be any different?
I realized that everything is always changing, and the way I experience exercise is also changing, as it has through the many years I’ve been doing it. So instead of becoming so comfortable with one thing (like trail running) maybe it’s time to shift my energy into cleaning up. Picking up heavy branches and clearing paths.
Then, when the time is right. I can go back to enjoying trail running.
But right now, It’s time to give back to the forest that has given so much. ✨
How do you experience giving back?
